Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0: How Industries Can Support Groundwater Recharge
India is facing a growing water crisis — with over 50% of the population experiencing water stress every month. To tackle this, the government launched Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0, aimed at restoring groundwater levels and promoting sustainable water use across the country.
What Is Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0?
Launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0 is a nationwide water conservation campaign focused on:
Rainwater harvesting
Groundwater recharge
Reuse of treated wastewater
Soil moisture conservation
It emphasizes community involvement, technology-based monitoring, and industry participation to ensure long-term water sustainability.
Create Recharge Pits or Injection Wells These structures help filtered rainwater directly replenish underground aquifers.
Recycle Treated Wastewater for Non-Drinking Use Treated water from STPs/ETPs can be reused for flushing, landscaping, and cooling, reducing the strain on groundwater.
